Arp 299 (NGC 3690 & IC 694)

  Arp 299 is in the class Double Galaxies.  The Atlas note is "bright internal knots".  Arp 299 is the large, bright, swirling complex of galaxies just SW of center.  Arp 296 is also part of this field; see page for Arp 296.  The eastern component of Arp 299 is NGC 3690E while the western component is NGC 3690W.  The bright spot in the outer envelope, NW of the double nucleus, is IC 694.
