arp 261 is another member of the irregular clumps class. it is just below
center in the image. the atlas note says "some condensations resolved,
similar smaller galaxy appears north". the galaxy to the north is pgc
52943. i think this is the galaxy referred to in the note. it is in
the atlas field but it sounds like dr. arp considered it distinct from the arp
group. the northeastern half of arp 261 is also cataloged as mcg -2-38-17
and the southwestern half as mcg -2-38-16.
