Arp 253

Arp 253 is in the class Appearance of Fission.  The Atlas note says "some resolution of stars or H II regions".  While these galaxies, especially the W one, show an extreme amount of lumpiness, I think the lumps are more likely star-forming regions than stars or H II regions.  The 2x detail image shows this best.  The eastern galaxy is MCG -1-25-32 and the western is MCG -1-25-31.

The large spiral at the bottom of the image is MCG -1-25-33.  A detail image of this unusual object is shown on the Extras page.
