Arp 229 (NGC 507 & 8)
Arp 229 is another member of the Concentric Rings class. Dr. Arp's Atlas
note says "circular or near circular rings of small density difference".
The rings are very difficult to detect in my image and even in the Atlas image.
The largest galaxy, just east of center, is NGC 507 and the smaller one north of
507 is NGC 508. The edge-on galaxy several minutes to the southwest is NGC
504 and the spiral in the southwest corner of the field is NGC 494. The
small galaxy near the top center of the field is NGC 503 and the little one
right at the south edge, toward the southeast corner, is IC 1690. There
are many more galaxies in this field, some cataloged and some anonymous.
