Arp 143 is a member of the class Material Emanating from E Galaxies. The
Atlas note says "diffuse counter filament". The north galaxy is NGC 2444
and the very strange beast to the south is NGC 2445. The two galaxies
appear to flow into one another. There is a lot more fine detail visible
in the Atlas image. The pretty little spiral near the northwest corner is
CGCG 206-22.
I got an additional 26 minutes of exposure which
is included in the negative image only. It did not improve the positive
and, because the images differed in alignment, I chose to do an incomplete crop
of the negative image to avoid cutting off the CGCG galaxy. The negative
image is about 1' smaller in each dimension.
